Sourcing News and Tips

LinkedIn is the world’s largest “professional social network”, claiming over 500 million members., the self-described “#1 job site in the world” claims about half as many people. However, the World Bank estimates the global labor force to be around 7 times LinkedIn’s total user base, or over 3.4 billion people.
Our most favorable estimate is that in the United States, where LinkedIn has the most traction, about 50-60% of working professionals have a profile. The country with the next highest level of engagement (by percentage of workforce) is the UK with just below 50%. Most of the world’s countries have fewer than 10% of their workforce represented on LinkedIn.
So, how do you go about finding candidates who aren’t on LinkedIn, or job boards? The specific best practices vary by type of candidate, location, industry, and other factors, but there are some general best practices we should always follow:
Sourcing without LinkedIn - Core Concepts
  • Think like a candidate – where else would you (or someone else) put your information online?
  • Visualize success – what will the information look like on pages where it can be found?
  • Target data rich sites – very large sites (everyone is there), or niche sites with fewer people who just the ones you want
Keeping those ideas in mind, let’s brainstorm a little and try to answer the question:
Where are they?
Of course, that list is far from exhaustive. Once you start to look beyond traditional candidate sources, you’ll discover a world brimming with opportunities to discover and engage candidates you would never have found before.
Happy Sourcing!
