Dear Sourcers, If you’ve ever been curious about Google Custom Search Engines (CSEs), now is the time to get your questions answered. Join us next Tuesday (July 20) and Wednesday (July 21) and Become a Custom Search Engines Expert. CSEs are a perennial hot topic among sourcing nerds but remain under-used in regular practice. That’s is a shame because CSEs give researchers an incredible degree of control over search results. We think everyone (certainly all sourcers and recruiters) should be using CSEs daily! CSEs are robust, flexible tools that take only minutes to set up. Want to:
- provide less proficient team members with truly foolproof search templates?
- peek within the otherwise invisible metadata that drives all online searches?
- pack 10x the search terms (generally limited to 32) into a single search?
We will show you how CSEs can help with all of these use cases and more. As just one practical example, here’s a blog post describing how to find emails and phones in US voter records. (Did we mention CSEs are free and offer unlimited searches, just like Google?) Of course, if you have not worked with CSEs before, they may seem technical or confusing. Google has not helped this impression: the only support information available online is for programmers. There is so little reliable information about making use of CSEs (especially for recruiting) that we had to write the book ourselves. So, please, join us next Tuesday at 8 AM Pacific (or catch the recording afterward if you cannot make it live), and don’t spend another week without these phenomenal tools in your kit.
